Summary: Overall we enjoyed our stay in Arnold. The cabin is in a beautiful part of the woods. Because it's in the woods there were some bugs in the house, which probably is inevitable to some extent, but the amount of spiders / spider webs did catch us off guard. Several dead bugs on the ground. It was quite hot in the summer without AC, but having the fans going and getting some airflow with the screen doors worked well enough. It usually cooled off enough by the time we were ready to go to bed. There is a laundry machine and dryer in the basement which is accessed through a door with a padlock in the back yard. This was not described at all on the listing and I would have had no idea it was there unless I searched pretty hard and noticed that the VRBO listing said it had laundry / dryer. The internet is fast. The private lake nearby is awesome, especially when it's hot in the summer. You are supposed to have a parking permit for the lake. The one in the house is outdated from last year but nobody said anything to us about it. The location is really great with tons of hiking around. The Arnold Rim trail is just a few minutes away, and Calaveras Big Trees State Park was also just a 10 minute drive. Murphys is a cute town nearby with plenty of wineries and restaurants. Some of the dishes in the cabinets were still quite dirty so we had to wash them before we used them. So to summarize it wasn't the cleanest place I've ever stayed but we still really enjoyed ourselves.
